“Arts Integration 101” - Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Art
Presented by Dr. Mark Malone
- Teachers will experience strategies and techniques to use a multiplicity of
artforms to teach core subject matter that include: geography, history, math,
science, and language arts.
- Kinesthetic activities such as singing, dancing, impromptu theatrical
improvisation, out-of-seat movement, drawing/painting, playing instruments will
be used to engage students in learning important concepts.
- A focus will be placed on college and career readiness Arts learning standards for
all artforms, as well as objectives and assessments. Special attention will be
given the four artistic processes of creating, performing, responding, and
connecting.
- A student-centered learning emphasis through the K-W-L method will be
presented. (What students know, what they would like to know, what the
students have learned).
- Lesson plans in the form of arts-integrated curricula will be selected and
demonstrated from the following: Mississippi Blues Trail and Beyond (2013), Mississippi
History Through the Arts: A Bicentennial Journey (2017), Footprints in the Dust: The Natchez
Trace (2019), TVA:Electricity for All (2021), Hurricane Camille (2021), and The Great Mississippi
Flood of 1927 (2021)
