Professional Development Workshop "Dance Integration 101" with Julie Hammond

Hattiesburg Arts Council invites you to a Professional Development Workshop - "Dance Integration 101"

Wednesday, July 31st from 8am - 3pm

Using Movement in YOUR Classroom - presented by USM Professor & Wiggle Genius Founder Julie Hammond

FREE and Open to K-12 instructors and administrators. 0.7 CEU credits available for $12 - to be paid at the door (Continental breakfast and lunch provided with RSVP)

Location: Hattiesburg Cultural Center, 723 N. Main Street (parking in back)

• Teachers will experience strategies and techniques to use movement and dance concepts to teach core subject matter that include: math, science, language arts, and social studies.
• Teachers will learn strategies for making movement "normal" in their classroom in order to establish effective procedures, classroom management, student engagement, and collaboration in this type of instruction
.
• Teachers will learn the elements of dance (body, energy, space, time) and how to partner these with academic subjects in instruction. National and state standards in dance, as well as objectives and assessments, will be referenced, with special attention given to the four artistic processes of creating, performing, responding, and connecting
.
• Teachers will use the Creative Problem-Solving Process to brainstorm and create integrated dance lessons.
• Lesson plans in the form of dance-integrated curricula will be selected and demonstrated from the Wiggle Genius website (www.wigglegenius.com) in all subject areas
.
• A unit plan on social and emotional competencies and mindfulness practices, presented nationally and internationally at invited conferences, will be shared for immediate application in the classroom to aid in student development & behavior post-COVID
